FEDERATIVE INSTITUTES OF RESEARCH
During the last years, the Resarch in Life Sciences has moved in a perceptive way : methodology integrated new technologies (biophysics methods, imaging, ?), the research teams became more important and multidisciplinary. This necessary evolution, which is likely to accelerate, implied to gather, research units from different organizations, on one site.
The Federative Institutes of Research (IFR), created in 1994 by the French Research Ministry, the French Health Ministry, in connection with different national research institutions, played an essential part in this evolution. The IFRs bring together, on one site, research units of different institutions around a common scientific strategy, committed to developing of social and economic partnerships. In addition, these regroupings support by their multidisciplinarity the emergence of young teams, the development of technological transfert and the improvements in training.
