The aim of this project is the development of novel artificial receptor based optical sensor systems and their application for assessing and screening endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) in the environment. The combination of optical sensor technology and artificial biorecognition layers (MIP) mimicking the biofunctionality of a receptor/antibody with advantageous properties of polymers allows designing enhanced monitoring schemes. Biosensors will prove the endocrine disrupting effect of chemicals detected by the MIP sensor and link environment and human health aspects by not only identifying and quantifying EDCs, but also by analysing the effect and risk of endocrine disruptors on humans.
